The genesis of Pizzerias
Pizza became very popular in Naples, Italy.
However, before the time of pizzerias, selling pizzas were marked by handwork and labor by very young boys. They would usually walk around Naples carrying a portable tin stove on their heads and called out to attract customers. Although such situation was considered unfortunate, this made pizza very popular and it paved the way for the opening of the world’s first pizzeria.
Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba was opened in 1830 in Port’Alba 18 Napales. It is interesting to note that this pizzeria is still open until today in Naples, Italy. In the earlier days when the pizzerias were first introduced to society, pizza crusts were made on marble counter and baked in large brick ovens. Neapolitan pizzas were made in the same manner they were made from the humble beginnings of pizzerias - in brick ovens and marble counters.
In the United States, the first pizzeria was said to have been started by Gennaro Lombardi. It was located at Spring Street in New York City. Because of this claim, Lombardi has come to be known as Patriaca della Pizza in the United Sates.
